Studies show this is the optimum density for visco-elastic material. Anything more is too firm, and anything less is too soft. Once density drops below 4.0 lb/ft3, quality diminishes rapidly.

Visco-elastic material of lesser density is cheaper to manufacture and transport, so prices are invariably less.
